is it absolutely necessary to do fashion sketches before the production of the item ?

i suck at drawing, i mean really badly, and can never seem to convey my ideas into sketches. But if i were to purchase the fabric and play around with it by draping it over my body in different positions until i was happy with it and then sew it, would that be ok? I’m not an aspiring fashion designer or anything, its just something i do for fun. Would dresses that are made this way be wearable? or is it really amateur?

I have little boys that lean on and pull the ends of a vinyl felt backed tablecloth right off the table. I like all the fun seasonal tablecloths, does anyone have any tips to help stop the thing from sliding all over? I do not want to sew elastic around the bottom, although I have done that before. I am looking for a quick fix, like can I put something on the top of my wood table first that won’t ruin the table top like a tacky substance?

If so, what kind of things can you sew? I am taking a beginner’s sewing class so I am just learning the basics, but I am excited and am having lots of fun with it.

I am getting a new sewing machine for Xmas/birthday, and I have so much really nice material, but I have no patterns to work from.
Do you know of any sites with free patterns for clothes/toys/bedding/ or just anything fun to make?

I know, very very odd. Here is my explanation:

My boyfriend loves cuttlefish. They are his favorite animal. I think they’re really cute too, so I plan on sewing him a cuttlefish doll for Christmas (along with baking him cookies.) Its sort of my thing to bake him a treat and get him a stuffed animal for Holidays and on his birthday he gets something super cool and fun (because I normally have enough money by then). Now, I’m alright at sewing. Not wonderful, but alright. I plan on using my grandma’s sewing machine.

So yeah. Anybody have a cuttlefish shape (or a link to one) that I could print out and use for sewing?

I just love watching the animal testing videos on youtube, especially the ones with monkeys. all the whiney puzzy tree huggers freaking out just makes it so much better. But heres my question, what should i major in in college to qualify for those kinds of jobs? biology? chemistry?

I was never really into the rubbing crap into rabbits eyes, the physical torture is fun, sure, but what i really wanna get into is the psychological stuff, especially with primates. There was one study where they took a baby monkey from his mother, and sewed his eyes shut, and then stuck a sonar device on his head that constantly let out a high pitched shreik, day and night nonstop. A real work of art, i mean thats just beautiful. Thats the kind of work i wanna get into, doing all sorts of hilariously cruel things like that to primates, especially baby monkeys.
So what kinda degrees do you guys think i should get to have the best chance of having a crack at some baby monkeys?
ps i had already thought of just buying some monkeys and doing it all from the comfort of my own home, but really monkeys can cost thousands of dollars, and to be honest id much rather get paid for it. thats a job i could really really love. the kinda job that makes it worth waking up in the morning for, ya know?

How to make a tote bag?

doll face =] asked:

I really want a tote bag and I could go out and buy one, but I thought it would be fun to make some at a sleepover I’m having. I’m 12, but my mom will be there so it doesn’t need to be really child friendly. I also have a sewing machine too.
Any ideas for how to make a cute one?
And also… would the tote bag hold books and things, because I actually need to use it for school.

Thanks for any answers!
